Oldfield Primary School

A community of proud and resilient children who are learning to take their place in the world.

Year 5

We're looking forward to the year ahead with lots of exciting learning across the curriculum and supporting children in becoming independent learners.  We will be participating in many practical activities in Science learning about the Vikings in History and lots more. The highlight of the year is our residential PGL trip to Osmington Bay in the Summer term.

Please make sure your child reads every evening and is confident in their times tables.  Please see the termly curriculum maps for more information about learning in Year 5.

Mr Virji (Y5O)

My teaching experience began by working with young adults on the National Citizen Service in Cornwall. I was in charge of the safety and well-being of large groups and led activities such as surfing, kayaking and hiking. This passion for teaching led me to then accept a role as a sports coach in the primary sector where I would teach PE lessons, after school clubs and bikeability. By coaching in different schools, an opportunity arrived to become a teaching assistant alongside my coaching which I did for 3 years. During this time I had the opportunity to educate children and help them achieve that ‘light bulb moment’ which for me so extremely satisfying. This ignited the passion to become a teacher. As I enter my third year of teaching, my style is constantly developing but my aims remain the same. To give the children knowledge they can use and develop to help themselves and the people around them.
